Fertility after cancer treatment is a common concern for younger women who are diagnosed with breast cancer. One new mom was not only able to conceive naturally after battling breast cancer in her 20s, her son is also the new Gerber Baby.

In late June, Gerber announced the winner of its 11th annual photo search, the winner of which becomes that year’s spokesbaby. In 2021, the title has gone to Zane Kahin from Winter Park, Florida. His parents say the pint-sized goofball came after they’d expected they would need to use fertility treatments when they started a family.

Zane’s mother Erin Kahin, says, “When I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 27 years old and a newly single woman, my doctors were unsure how the impact of chemotherapy, radiation and a double mastectomy would impact my ability to have children. After getting married to my husband over a year ago, we surprisingly conceived naturally and had a near perfect pregnancy. Our family continues to enjoy every moment and look at life with appreciation and a sense of humor.”

Zane’s father Mike Kahin says they decided to enter the contest after he’d joked that everyone says every baby is cute. This gave them a chance to see if people were really telling the truth.

Gerber gave them the proof they needed, saying they picked the little tyke because of his cheerful attitude, infectious giggles, and playful smile. The now certified cutie will serve as official Chief Taste Tester to review new baby food products and give the higher ups some youthful advice on what babies need. He’s also the honorary Chief Growing Officer.

Gerber is happy to have him on board answering the important baby food questions.

Mohini Joshi, Vice President of Marketing at Gerber, says, “Photo Search is a moment that brings families together in celebration year after year, and the Gerber family is delighted to welcome Zane as this year’s Gerber Spokesbaby and first-ever Chief Growing Officer. By recognizing that every baby is a Gerber baby, we celebrate the diversity of families – whether that’s where we’re from, who our parents are or the circumstances in which baby came into the world.”

They noted that the Kahins’ story of perseverance and hope is a sign of what all parents can agree on: the promise to do anything for baby. Zane’s title will help a little bit in getting him what he needs. The family was also given a $25,000 cash prize, free Gerber products for up to a year, and a new wardrobe from Gerber Childrenswear.
