Carter and Ashton Kroeger may only be in high school, but they are already helping teenagers all over the country who are struggling with mental health issues.
The brothers co-founded the Persevere Project, a nonprofit that focuses on giving teenagers information an resources on suicide prevention. Their mission is to offer a safe space where young adults can be heard and understood.
“We hope to initiate upfront conversations on mental health, emotional struggles, and physical changes we go through,” they wrote on their website. “Together, we aim to move past the discomfort of talking about the teenage experience and normalize open discussions on feelings and insecurities.”
They initially began creating mental health content on TikTok, and teens started reaching out to them for advice and to let them know how helpful their videos were.
This inspired the pair to do something more to help young people. That’s when they created the nonprofit to give people their age a place to express, get support, and build the strength and courage to face their fears.
“We help teenagers understand what they’re going through, helping each other develop healthy coping mechanisms against environmental pressures, depression, addiction, and more,” their website states.
The duo explains how stress can negatively affect teenagers and how to cope with it. They also allow people to anonymously contact them if they need someone to talk to.
