NIVEA Sun Safety Roadshow on tour in Newcastle

In 2012, we launched our partnership with NIVEA SUN to raise funds for research into skin cancer and raise awareness of sun safety. This summer, we’re continuing our mission as the NIVEA Sun Safety Roadshow brings our sun safety messaging to parks, beaches and cities nationwide.

Since our partnership began, NIVEA SUN have raised over £5m for our vital research into skin cancers. Alongside raising funds, one of the partnership’s most crucial objectives is to share sun safety messaging with the UK public. Together, we encourage people to protect themselves from the sun, whether at home or abroad, through effective use of sunscreen, shade and clothing. And we’re thrilled that NIVEA SUN have recently re-affirmed their commitment to this pivotal work by agreeing to renew our partnership until the end of 2024.

This summer, we’re excited to be taking our sun safety education on tour across the UK. With stops from Devon to Manchester, Cardiff to Glasgow, the NIVEA Sun Safety Roadshow is going into the heart of local communities to deliver relevant and engaging information on staying sun-safe. This nationwide campaign aims to help us all enjoy the summer whilst protecting our skin. A recent YouGov survey commissioned by Cancer Research UK and NIVEA, found that 43% of UK adults surveyed are planning a staycation this year, and that 33% typically don’t do anything to protect themselves from the sun in their garden or outside space.

Caro Evans, Director of Partnerships, says “All of us at Cancer Research UK are so excited to see the roadshow out and about, and that NIVEA SUN are continuing to help spread our vital sun safety messaging. Whether you are on a staycation or just heading outside for a walk or a picnic, it’s important to remember the sun isn’t only strong abroad. It can be strong enough in the UK to cause damage too, and we hope that our Sun Safety Roadshow will help to remind people to protect themselves this summer.”

We’re hugely grateful to NIVEA SUN for their renewal of our partnership and their commitment to helping us spread our health messaging. It’s never been more important that we all remember to enjoy the sun safely, so don’t forget that when the sun is strongest, you need to:

  • spend time in the shade
  • cover up with a wide-brimmed hat, clothing and sunglasses
  • generously and regularly apply sunscreen with at least SPF15+ and 4 or 5 stars to the areas you can’t cover

Patrick Albrecht, NIVEA Marketing Director for Northern Europe says “We’re delighted to be celebrating another year of our long-standing partnership with Cancer Research UK by launching our new sun safety campaign, touring the nation with our sun safety bus. In a year when we will see unprecedented numbers of staycations and the UK public enjoying a British summer, we wanted to ensure we’re present where the public are on sunny days, to help enable people to enjoy the sun safely.”
