We’re so excited to welcome back our wonderful supporters to Race for Life events across the UK this autumn.

– Michelle Mitchell, Cancer Research UK’s chief executive

Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is a series of non-competitive events that people can run, walk, or jog. There are over 400 events planned to take place between late August and October this year. Alongside the 5k, 10k and Pretty Muddy obstacle courses for adults and children, there will also be 3k routes this year.

And, although some people are at greater risk, experts warn that anyone can get sunburnt or

COVID-19 safety measures will be in place at all events including social distancing, hand sanitiser stations and staggered start times to avoid congestion.

Mitchell said it was an incredibly difficult decision to cancel the events in 2020 but Race for Life is back, and the charity wants more people than ever to sign up. “We’ve developed ways to ensure our events can go ahead safely following government guidance, so whilst Race for Life may look a little different this year, it will still be a brilliant experience for everyone taking part.”

Like most charities, COVID-19 has hit Cancer Research UK hard. By signing up to a Race for Life event and raising money, everyone can make a real difference in helping to continue funding life-saving research.

A 20-year partnership

This year, Tesco is celebrating 20 years in partnership with Race for Life. During this time, 390,000 Tesco colleagues and customers have taken part in Race for Life events and helped raise millions of pounds for vital research.

Oonagh Turnbull, head of health campaigns at Tesco said celebrating 20 years in partnership with Cancer Research UK and Race for Life is a momentous occasion for everyone at Tesco. “We would like to thank all our customers and colleagues for their continued support to raise vital funds for this amazing partnership over so many years. Together, we will continue to make a big difference in the fight against cancer.”
